Casey Brown came to Goldfinch Winslow, LLC in January 2021 and supervises the Criminal Defense division. He began his legal career representing abused and neglected children in Columbia, SC for Richland County C.A.S.A. (Court Appointed Special Advocate) handling hundreds of hearings and bench trials in Family Court. He also volunteered his time as a Guardian Ad Litem for Richland County. Casey then accepted a position as a Public Defender with the Fifteenth Judicial Circuit of South Carolina and moved to the Grand Strand area. As a Public Defender, he has tried numerous cases of various types of crimes, from larceny to murder, over many years in the Court of General Sessions as well as handled hearings in Magistrate Court. After years of service, Casey moved into the private sector defending high-profile criminal cases in the Grand Strand area.
Casey is a diehard Gamecock fan and graduated from the University of South Carolina in 2007 with a degree in Criminology and Criminal Justice. While at USC Casey was a member of Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity and worked in the Thomas Cooper Library and at the USC gym as a lifeguard. During the summers, Casey worked as an ocean rescue supervisor and first responder in the Grand Strand area. After college, he attended the Thomas M. Cooley Law School in Michigan and was admitted to the South Carolina Bar in 2012. Casey is an active member of SCACDL (South Carolina Criminal Defense Lawyers).
Casey has a passion for helping others and serving in his community. In 2019, Casey was appointed to the Planning Commission for the Town of Surfside Beach. He was then voted to serve as vice-chairman of that committee.
When Casey is not practicing law, he enjoys spending time with his fiancée and their three dogs. His hobbies include surfing, cheering on the Gamecocks, and grilling delicious food.
